Effects of Several Chemicals on Oxygen Consumption

Abstract
Effects of several chemicals on oxygen consumption of Clonorchis sinensis in the medium of Krebs Ringer Phosphate (KRP) solution were observed under Warburg manometry. The results were as follows.
1. Oxygen consumption was not influenced by acetylcholine, epinephrine, serotonin, histamine, curare, sodium nitrite and barium chloride, but by papaverine, 2,4-dinitrophenol and 2,6-diiodo-4-nitrophenol, was inhibited remarkably.
2. It was enhanced conspicously by cupric ion, slightly by ferrous ion, but significantly reduced by ferric ion. In the medium of 0.9%-saline solution, oxygen consumption was inhibited by cupric, ferrous, and ferric ions.
3. Enhancement of oxygen consumption with cupric ion was inhibited when hexachlorophene was added, and inhibition of oxygen consumption with hexachlorophene was reversed when cupric ion was added.
